Entrance Exam Description
During the selection process we examine the competency of the applicant in two ways:
The faculty decides about the eligibility of the applicant by examining the documents of previous studies (degree, subject, results). This is followed by an entrance exams that evaluate the level of study-language and specialty exam.
The exams can be conducted online. In order to validate the entrant’s person, exams taken remotely are recorded on video, as is the person verification process. The recording is archived for at least five years on University’s grounds and the link to that recording is available in the united base of Ministry of Education of Ukraine.
Program Structure
Year 1 (Semesters 1–2).
Semester 1 builds your theoretical and regulatory base: Theory of Urban Planning (Complex Investigation), Urban Planning Legislation & Documentation, and Modern Conceptions in Urban Planning; these include hands-on spatial analysis with GIS and space syntax.
Semester 2 shifts to applied methods and stakeholder work: Methods of Architectural Research & Design, Participation and Cooperation in Urban Planning, and landscape/public-realm fundamentals (e.g., Dendrology for sustainable planting in urban space). Many cohorts also run a design studio/Architectural Design (course project) this term.
Year 2 (Semester 3).
The final semester centers on the capstone: Course Project on the Master’s Thesis topic, Master’s Thesis Internship, and Master’s Thesis Defence—often complemented by heritage-led urban regeneration topics (e.g., Theory & Practice of Regeneration of Historic Cities and Architectural Complexes).
Overview
Students learn through advanced, studio-based projects that tackle real urban sites. They study planning theory, policy and legislation, while building strong technical skills in GIS, data-driven spatial analysis (including space syntax), and 3D/BIM tools. The curriculum emphasizes sustainable and energy-efficient building design, urban regeneration and adaptive reuse, as well as landscape and public-realm design with fundamentals of transport and infrastructure. Students also take research methods and professional practice, culminating in a master’s thesis and portfolio. Depending on interest, they can focus their pathway on Urban Planning or Landscape Architecture.
Career Opportunities
Graduate from LPNU’s MSc in Architecture & Urban Planning and step straight into a world where cities are your canvas. You’ll be competitive for roles like Urban Designer or Architectural Designer in leading studios, Junior Urban Planner in city and regional agencies, and GIS/Spatial Analyst on data-driven planning teams. Your toolkit—design studios, policy and legislation, GIS/space-syntax, and regeneration—translates globally to transport and mobility planning, public-realm and landscape projects, and heritage-led urban renewal. International NGOs and development programs value this blend for recovery, climate resilience, and sustainable growth initiatives. In Ukraine, you can contribute to modernizing cities and infrastructure; abroad, you’ll join multidisciplinary teams shaping liveable neighborhoods from concept to permitting. Many graduates also advance to doctoral studies or specialize further, opening doors to research, teaching, and senior design or planning leadership.
