1. What kind of academic schedule can I expect at Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU)?

The academic year is divided into semesters, with two exam sessions per year.The schedule includes lectures, laboratory sessions, seminars, workshops, and potentially internships or research activities, depending on the program. 


2. Are the professors supportive and fluent in English?

3. How are exams conducted at LPNU?

At Lviv Polytechnic National University, exams are typically conducted at the end of each semester, forming two exam sessions per academic year. The exam structure includes both written and oral components for various subjects. For example, entrance exams evaluate the level of study-language and basic Physics and Mathematics. All exams/interviews can be conducted online.


4. Do I need to learn Ukrainian?

While not mandatory in the first years for English-taught programs, learning basic Ukrainian is encouraged — it helps with hospital practice and daily life in Kyiv.

To speed up your language learning, LPNU provides several ways for international students to boost their Ukrainian quickly: Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens with a Ukrainian-language track, plus a special intensive Ukrainian improvement course available in group or individual format (for those who already know some Ukrainian).


5. Can I change my speciality when applying for a Master's degree?

Yes, you need to successfully pass a professional exam. This applies to all specialties exept law and medicine.


6. What if I fail the exam?

You will be given another try or offer to change your specialty. 


7. What I will get on a Foundation Year (preparatory department)?

You'll get:

intensive Ukrainian or English course;

Core subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, plus Technical Drawing (for technical fields) or Biology (for medical fields).

Duration: 10 months

Study format: online or on campus - up to you!


8. Can I study part-time?

For now part-time available for Ukrainian language programs.


9. Are there double-degree programs?

Yes. LPNU offers double-degree / dual-award programs with foreign universities. Examples include: an MSc Psychology dual award with Nottingham Trent University (UK), a Geodesy & Geoinformatics double degree with Hochschule Neubrandenburg (Germany), and more. 

Lviv Polytechnic is a member of the international RealMaths Consortium, which unites 17 universities from Ukraine, Italy, Canada, Poland, Germany, Vietnam, and Ghana. The goal is the joint training of specialists in Mathematics for Real World Applications.


10. What are the study durations for Bachelor's and Master's degrees?

Bachelor's degree - 4 years, Master's degree - 1,5 year.


11. In what format is the study conducted?

In Ukrainian-speaking groups, the study is conducted in a mixed format (lecturers online, practice and labs in person in laboratories). In English-speaking groups, the study is mostly online.


12. Do I have to come to Ukraine to study?

No, if the study conducted online. But in any case, it is mandatory to receive the invitation to study.


13. If the study online, will this be indicated in the diploma?

No, our educational programs fully correspond to full-time study, so the diploma will also say full-time.

14. Does LPNU provide official dormitory for international students?

Yes, LPNU offers dormitory accommodation for international students. There are 13 dormitories on the university's territory, typically shared rooms (2–4 students per room). 15. Can I rent a private apartment instead of staying in a hostel?

The university runs the Scientific & Technical Library with reading rooms, group spaces, Wi-Fi/printing, and access to e-catalogs, a full-text repository, and remote access to databases like Scopus/Web of Science. Dozens of research units and labs (e.g., 70+ SRLs, testing labs, certification bodies) operate across institutes. The SID City Science Park (the largest in Ukraine), Tech StartUp School, and the Technology Park link students and faculty with industry for R&D, prototyping, and commercialization.

Yes, you can join various sports groups: athletics, arm wrestling, football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, wrestling, boxing, aerobics, fitness, pointe, gymnastics, tourism.
